RECESSION IN DAIRY PRICES
BOTH THE MARKETS LESS ACTIVE. REPORTS RECEIVED FROM LONDON. Butter Quotations. Yesterday: Finest, 76s to 78s; very quiet. Last week: Finest, 79s to 80s; steady. Cheese Quotations. Yesterday: White, 48s to 495; coloured, 50s to 525; very quiet. Last week: White, 50s; coloured, 52s to 535; firm. Fluctuations in both the butter and the cheese markets during the week have resulted in a slight fall to prices ell nound. Neither of the markets is as active as it was at the same stage List week. The following reports, in which last week’s prices are in parentheses, have been received from London:— Newton King Ltd. (R. and W. Davidson Ltd.): The butter market has receded slightly during the week! and closes quiet; salted, 76s to 78s (78s to 80s); unsalted, 80s to 84s (82s to 84s). The cheese market has receded slightly during the week and closes very quiet; white, 48s (50s); coloured, 50s (525). Mr. E. Griffiths (A. J. Mills and Company Ltd.): The butter market is slow; New Zealand finest, 77s to 78s G9s to 80s); New Zealand firsts, 76s (77s to 78s); New Zealand unsalted, 82s to 84s (82s to 84s); Danish, 92s to 94s (88s to 90s); Australian, 76s to 78s (77s to 795). The cheese market is steady; New Zealand white, 48s to 49s (50s); New Zealand coloured, 51s to 52s (52s to 535); Canadian white, 66s to 68s (64s to 665); Canadian coloured, 66s to 68s (66s to 68s); Canadian c.i.f., 54s to 555. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Ltd. (dated July 12): Butter, New Zealand choicest salted, 77s to 78s per cwt (795). Cheese, white, 49s per cwt (50s); coloured, 50s to 51s per cwt (525). The markets are very slow. Messrs. Henry A. Lane and Co., Ltd., Hawera: New Zealand cheese, white 485., coloured 505.; 'market dull; New Zealand butter, 775.; dull.
