ATTACKED IN STREET
INCIDENT AT PUKEKOHE. BUSINESS MAN ROBBED. » •- Pukekohe, July 12. A robbery with violence occurred in Queen Street, Pukekohe, last evening, when Mr. James McCormick, a well- ' known local resident, was attacked by two men. He was struck and forced to the ground, and £2 13s was taken from his pockets. Mr. McCormick said to-day that at about 6.30 p.m. he was walking along the footpath in Queen Street, to his home in Wellington Street, when he saw three men come from the shadow of a gateway on the opposite side of the road. They came, across to him. and, without a word being spoken, one of them, who was a fairly big man, punched him hard. Mr. McCormick, who is himself of more than average physique, said he grappled with the man who struck him, but another of the trio seized his hands and held them while the first man punched him again. The third man stood by, taking no part. The two men forced him to the ground, and searched his pockets, taking all the money in them, including 2s in his hip pocket. They returned his papers. On leaving him they sauntered leisurely down the road. A friend came along soon afterward and helped him home. Mr. McCormick’s injuries comprised a cut on the arm, while He was also badly bruised about the face. He said to-day ” he was under the impression that he called for help during the struggle, but residents in the vicinity all state they heard nothing unusual during‘the evening. . Queen Street is a fairly busy street, being the principal thoroughfare to Pukekohe Hill. The police have arrested two suspects.
