FAREWELL AT KAPUNI
MR. AND MRS. ALLAN HONOURED. • TRIBUTE TO SOCIAL SERVICE. Mr. and Mrs. J. Allan, who are leaving Kapuni to reside at Manaia, were farewelled by a large gathering at the Kapuni Hall on Wednesday evening and presented with a mantelpiece clock from the residents, while Mr. Allan received a fountain pen from the school committee. Masters Eric and Andrew Allan each received a book. Mr. J. Kissick said that during their two years at Kapuni Mr. and Mrs. Allan had endeared themselves to all, and the people were sorry to lose them. Mr. H. Eliason said that for two years Mr. Allan had been chairman of the hall committee and of the school com-' mittee, and in both positions he, along with Mrs. Allan, had rendered good service. He much regretted their departure. Mr. J. S. Gamlin said that both in the store and the post office Mr. and Mrs. Allan had been very obliging, and he was pleased to see such a large assemblage to bid them farewell and wish them success. Mr. W. Wheeler in making the presentation said' that ever since their arrival Mr. and Mrs. Allan had been “in harness” on the hall committee and were always willing to assist. at any social function. He wished them good luck. Mr. A. Playle spoke and made the presentation on behalf of the school committee. With Mr. Allan as chairman the school committee meetings had always been harmonious and successful, he said, and they would always be ready to welcome Mr. and Mrs. Allan on their Tn returning thanks Mr. Allan said the gifts would be greatly treasured. Arriving as strangers in the district he and his wife had received many kindnesses from the residents, and they had only tried to do their best.
