BRIXTON DISTRICT NOTES

WOMEN’S DIVISION MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Brixton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held on Thursday. Mrs. McCaul presided over an attendance of 25. Mrs. Topless and Mrs. Hancock were welcomed as visitors. Arrangements for the branch s first birthday next week were finalised. Mrs. Hopson’s offer of flowers for decorating the tables was accepted with thanks. An invitation to the Lepperton branch s third birthday was received. A number will make the trip. _ An interesting competition in charge of Mrs. Longstaff was won by Mrs. Lash, after a tie with Mrs. Topless, Miss Higgins Miss Limmer and Miss Lash. It was arranged to hold a function in aid of the community chest funds in the near future. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. Higgins, Miss Fulton and Miss Hopson. Community Picnic Dance. The Brixton community picnic dance held in the Huirangi Hall on Thursday night was very successful, the hall being crowded. Mr. A. Aitken, the master of ceremonies, kept the dancers going merrily to the excellent music-- Rowes orchestra. Miss Parker and Miss Haskall played extras. Monte Carlo waltzes were won by Miss D. Thatche: and Mr. F. Fenton, Mrs. R. Mace and Mr. H. Mace. A statue dance was won by Mr. T. Fowler and partner. The euchre in charge of Messrs. A. Fulton and W. McCaul was well patronised. Mrs. McNeil, Mrs Watson and Miss Mildred Sutton tied with 71 games each for the ladies’ prize and the play-off was won Miss Sutton,

with Mrs. Watson second. Mr. W. Sutton (9 games) 1, and Mr. W. Baker (8 games) 2 were the men’s prize-winners. Supper was attended to by the ladies. Personal. Miss Purdie is at Whakatane. Mr. G. Hodson, Pio Pio, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. Rowe. Miss Hazel Crosby, who has been the guest of Miss Nila Street, has returned to Eltham. Miss Fulton has returned to New Plymouth.

Mr. L. Hodson, Tikorangi, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. Rowe. Mr, is at Auckland,

Mr. H. Andrews is on annual holiday. Mr. and Mrs. Hancock have taken' up residence in the district. Mr. Longstaff has returned from Hamilton. Miss D. Street is staying at Hillsborough.
