COLLISION OF STEAMERS

BRITISH SHIPS IN THE ELBE THREE BELIEVED MISSING SEVERAL OF CREW INJURED PASSENGERS LAND SAFELY By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Rugby, June 1. In a dense fog the Union Castle steamer Guildford Castle, 8000 tons, and the Holt motor-ship Stentor, 6600 tons, collided last night near Cuxhaven in the River Elbe. The Guildford Castle was proceeding from Hamburg to London and the Stentor was bound from London to Hamburg. The Guildford Castle was holed in the starboard bow and began to settle. It is feared that two deck boys and the cook are missing. Several of the crew were injured. The passengers, numbering 37, were mostly asleep at the time and none was hurt. They were put into boats in their night attire and taken aboard the Stentor and German vessels which came quickly to the assistance. The passengers were landed at Cuxhaven. The Stentor proceeded later to Hamburg, having suffered comparatively minor damage.
