BORN NEW PLYMOUTH 1842

DEATH OF MRS. A. M. JOHNS. One of the first European children born in the settlement of New Plymouth was the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. James Shaw, who landed from the William Bryon in March, 1841. That child afterwards became Mrs. A. M. Johns, who died on Thursday at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Herd, 16 Armadale Road, Remuera, at the age of 91. Mrs. Johns was bom at New Plymouth in April, 1842. Mr. and Mrs. Shaw were amongst the first couples to be married at New Plymouth, and Mrs. Johns was one of the first European children bom in the settlement. In her infancy she left New Plymouth in. April, 1845, with her parents for Adelaide in the cutter Paul Jones (25 tons), on an adventurous voyage of nine weeks. Returning from Australia about 1856 with her parents She was married in 1862 to Mr. Moore, and later they left for Ireland, where she resided for some years until the death of Mr. Moore. Then she returned to New Zealand, residing at Nelson. Her children were Mrs. Collier, of Durie Hill, Wanganui, Mrs. Herd, Remuera, and a son, Dlr. Wjlliam Moore, who died some years ago at Nelson. Mr. H. Collier, New Plymouth, is a grandson.
