CYCLE CLUB ENTERTAINED. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. At the parish hall on Thursday night the Inglewood Cycle Club held a sucI cessful euchre party and dance. The floor was packed with dancers and 12 tables were occupied in the euchre tournament, ch was won by I." s. F. Spurdle 1, Mrs. Campbell 2; Mr. F. Scott 1, Mr. J. Scott 2. Harris Bros.’ orchestra provided music for the dancers. During the evening Mr. L. Old, president of the club, thanked all who had helped to make a success of the gathering. He stated that since the club had been reformed by Mr. M. Lawson in 1931 great progress had been made, and members had won prize money totalling £209 12s 6d. The patron of the club in presenting the cups for ,the season stated that the club’s winnings undoubtedly showed that in the Inglewood district there were first class riders. The club now had two riders who rode off scratch in open races —C. Parker, the New Zealand half, two and five-mile track champion, and C. Burke, who finished third on two occasions in New Zealand championships. The trophies were presented as follow; — B grade cup: G. Parkers 15pts; run-ners-up, L. Mace and J. Zimmerman 13pts. . , Senior No. 1 track series: G. Parker 18pts; runner-up, C. Burke 15pts. Senior No. 2 track series: C. Burke 12pts; runners-up, J. Zimmerman and E. Standing, llpts; fourth, C. Parker lOpts. Shield presented by the club for sportsmanship and excellent riding: C. Burke. Flying half mile medal presented by Mr. J. Foote (New Zealand amateur exchampion): E. Stockman. Club’s cup for two-mile wheel race: C. Burke. The cycle club’s road series of four races will commence next Thursday, the programme being: June 1, Waipngona and back; June 8, round Kaimiro triangle; June 15, Kaimata and back; June 22, Tariki and back. AU the races will be for a sweepstake. Nominations close with the secretary on the, Monday prior to the race and the handicaps wiU be declared on Tuesdays. At a meeting on Friday evening Mrs. Faris and Mrs. Wanklyn were appointed the subscribers’ representatives on the Inglewood public library committee. GENERAL ITEMS. Election Petition Hearing. If everybody who says he is going to the courthouse to-day fulfills his intention space will be at a premium when the petition in connection with the recent mayoral election at Stratford is heard. Mr. L. M. Moss will appear on behalf of the petitioners and Mr. A. Coleman wiU oppose the application in the interests of Mr. J. W. McMillan, at present sitting as Mayor. Entertainment Value. “I would rather go to an A. and P. Association executive meeting than the pictures,” said Mr. W. Pettigrew at Saturday’s annual meeting of the Stratford A. and P. Association. He did not know, said-Mr. Pettigrew in explanation, of any body that was happier in its committee meetings that the association. Electricity Charges. In the report of the Farmers’ Union conference at Inglewood Mr. T. T. Murray (Toko) was reported as having seconded the Hillsborough remit urging the reduction in electricity charges. Mr. M. G. Trotter (Sratford) was the seconder. Bird Road Euchre Party. At a euchre party and dance at Bird Road on Friday night 14 tables were engaged. Prizes were won by Miss Loving (first) and Mrs. E. Stallard (second) and Messrs. G, Nillson and R. Death. Dancing was enjoyed later, Mr. R. Macßae being master of ceremonies, while the music was provided by Mr. H. Waite. Mayor’s Relief Fund. Further donations to the appeal by the committee of the Mayor’s relief fund have been received from the following: Mr. E. H. Young, Mrs. E. H. Young, Mr. A; Manoy, Mrs. A. Manoy, Miss R. Manoy, Miss S. Manoy, Mr. P. Skoglund, Mr. W. Rogers. Show Helpers.

The assistance rendered by the ladies’ committee at show time was commented upon ■at the annual meeting of the Stratford A. and P. Association on Saturday by Mr. W. O’Sullivan, who stated that the amount of work the ladies did was not always fully known. The president, Mr. A. David, mentioned the work done behind the scenes by the Technical High School boys and Messrs. A. H. K. Amess, principal and H.. C. Jackson, science master. The unfailing courtesy and readiness to please of the auto association officers was on the suggestion of Mr. M. G. Trotter recognised by a vote of thanks. Gifts of Honey. Unemployed families at Stratford may receive free supplies of honey during the next few weeks through the generosity of Mr. A. G. M. Craig, Warwick Road. Mr. Craig has donated a large amount of honey to the Stratford committee which will be distributed according to the requirements of needy families. Old Girls’ Hockey Teams. The following Stratford O.G. hockey teams have been selected to play at the tournament at Hawera on Saturday: Seniors: N. Lash, M. McCluggage, M. Ferguson, C. Clark, R. Childs, L. Wickham, Al. Young, B. Watkins, E. Irving, U. Mills and G. Hale., Juniors: D. Pettigrew, F. Morrison, J. Buchanan, D. and V. Cook, D. O’Neill, D. Lilley, H. Reader, J. Whitmill, C. Whittlestone and C. Marsh. The Optimist? When it became necessary to elect a president at Saturday’s annual meeting of the A. and P. Association Mr. W. Pettigrew unconsciously struck a note that was not exactly optimistic. “We would like to keep him,” said Mr. Pettigrew, referring to the retiring president, Mr. A. David, who was re-elected; “I was going to say till our troubles are over, but—at any rate for a good many years yet.” Lorry Hits Power Pole. A lorry owned by Mr. Witt Gower, Eltham, hit a power pole near the Jerseydale factory on Friday and suffered severe damage to the front portion, the front mudguard and hood being smashed in. The concrete power pole was broken in two places and had to be renewed. The accident occurred owing to the lorry skidding on the wet surface when pass-

ing another vehicle. The lorry was driven by Mr. Len Gower and two in the cab, Mr. W. Glentworth and Master E. Best, received minor injuries.

Heavy Rain on Mountain. The absence of snow below the Manganui hut and heavy rain all day meant that very few people visited the east side of Mt. Egmont yesterday. Those who did and wished to ski had to go to the Policeman. A number of members of the Stratford Mountain Club was at the Manganui hut during the day.

Euchre Party. The Anglican euchre party drew an excellent attendance to the Stratford Parish hall on Friday evening. The prizes were won by Mrs. Reader 1, Mrs. Robson 2; Mr. Jenkins 1, Mr. T. Reader 2.
