ATTACK ON REFERENDUM
ITS VALIDITY QUESTIONED REFORM OF UPPER HOUSE ARGUMENT BEFORE COURT METHODS OF SUBMISSION By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 10 p.m. Sydney, May 25. Argument regarding the validity of the recent referendum on reform of the Legislative Council began to-day in the State Full Court before Justices Harvey, Longinnes and Davidson. There was a formidable array of counsel, with three‘ King’s Counsel on each side. Mr. Loxton, K.C., for the plaintiffs substantially claimed that there had not been a proper submission of the referendum to the people, who had not been properly informed of the details of the Bill for the reform of the Legislative Council. Mr. Justice Davidson at one stage interposed: “Would it not be an adequate submission if the electors were told, as it were, “That you may see a copy of this Bill at si* ch and.such a place,’ or do you argue that every elector must receive .a ’copy of the Bill. Mr. Loxton: I claim that more must be done than was done at this election. The hearing was adjourned.
