Messrs. C. M. Hume, Dominion supervisor of the Herd Testing Association, E. E Hale, chairman of the, Waikato Pig Recording Club, and C. Cuming, Hamilton, are on a brief visit to New Plymouth.

Mr. J. McLeod, chairman of the Taranaki Rugby Union, left yesterday morning for Wellington, where he will attend the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union, which opens to-day. Bishop C. A. Cherrington spent Monday night at Waitara, being the guest of the Rev. H. S. Fussell. On Tuesday he attended the monthly meeting of the Taranaki Archdeaconry at Waitara and afterwards visited New Plymouth, returning to Hamilton yesterday morning.

Wing-Commander Sir Norman Leslie has been appointed j !nt managing director of Imperial Communications Ltd. ana Associated Companies, states a London cable. Sir Norman, who is 44 years or age, served in the Royal Flying Corps in the Great War.,

The death occurred at Palmerston North yesterday of Mr. John Samuel Watchom at the age of 75 years. Mr. Watchom was bom at Wymondham, Leicestershire, .in 1858. He was apprenticed to the drapery trade, and after serving with the Leicestershire _ and London firms came to the Dominion in 1880 in the sailing vessel Maraval. Mr. Watchom lived at Wellington and Wanganui, and went to Palmerston North in 1883 to join the firm of Messrs. Joseph Nathan and Co. He returned to England with his family in 1899 with the intention of entering business there, but returned to Palmerston North two years later and commenced business as a draper^. Mr. Watchom, who was pre-deceased by’ his wife 15 years ago, leaves two sons, Messrs. Geoffrey (Palmerston North) and Neville Watchom (Sydney), and tone daughter, Mrs. J. Gamham (New Plymouth).
