ESCAPE FROM FIRE
FAMILY IN FARM HOUSE.
RAPID SPREAD OF FLAMES. Te Kuiti, May 8.
A remarkable escape was made by Mr. and Mrs. R. Blazell and their two young children when the house they were occupying at Waimiha was burned to the ground in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Mr. Blazexl was awakened by the roar of the fire, and found the building firmly ablaze. The flames had such a hold that it was impossible to think of anything but safety, and, clad only in their night attire* Mr. and Mrs. Blazell rescued the two children and made their escape. In less than a minute after they had left the flames were pouring out through the door. Apart from a perambulator in which the youngest child, a baby of four months, was sleeping, nothing was saved. The night was very cold, and heavy rain was' falling, making the plight of the family an unenviable one. Neighbours, who were aroused by the fire, came to their assistance with warm clothing.
The house, which consisted of seven rooms, was owned by Mr. R. H. McKenzie, of Te Kuiti, and was the homestead on his Waimiha farm. Neither the house nor the furniture was insured.
