SOCIAL AND. GENERAL NEWS. The weekly euchre party held in the Otangiwai Hall resulted in Miss V. Chaytor winning the ladies’ prize with 13 games and Mr. W. Edmonds the men’s prize with 12 games. Consolation prizes were won by Miss U. Carter and Mr. W.' Lyon, each with 4| games.

House Wanning. Mr. and Mrs. W. Gray on Friday entertained about 80 guests at a house-warm-ing party in their new home. A very enjoyable evening was spent Social Club.

The opening evening of the Methodist Social Club was held in carnival hall on Wednesday last week, when a good crowd attended. The evening was spent in playing ping pong, deck quoits and deck billiards.

Miss M. Rutherford is at home with her parents for the school vacation. Mrs. H. Stoddart has returned to Matiere after spending a fortnight’s holiday in Auckland.

Mrs. G. Price, Mr. C. Price and Mr. T. Blanchard (Seatoun) and Mr. W. Chaytor (Otangiwai) left for Wellington by car on Saturday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Breddo, Douglas, have been spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. H, Stoddart, Matiere. Mrs. P. A. Passau, Te Kuiti, is at present visiting Matiere. Mr. J. Binns, Matiere, and his stepdaughter, Miss D. Marshall, Whangarei, have returned from a motor tow to Wellington and Te Aroha districts. Mr. G. Woods has been visiting Taumarunui for a few days. Mr. T. Rumsby, who for several months has been residing at Waverley, has returned to Matiere. Mr. H. Wiggins, postmaster at Matiere, has been transferred to Clevedon and will be leaving Matiere at the end of the week. Football Dance. The Matiere Football Club held a dance in the public hall on Saturday, when a fair crowd was .present.' The music was supplied. by the Matiere orchestra, and extras were played by Mr. C. D. Margan. Mr. A. E. Lodder was master of Ceremonies. Basketball.

An endeavour is being made by tile young ladies of Matiere to form a basketball team to play matches against Ohura and Heao. ’ The first practice was held on Saturday afternoon, when a- fair number of players attended.
