RISE IN DAIRY PRODUCE

MARKETS.SHOW FIRMNESS BUTTER FROM 72s TO 745. ACTIVITY IN BUYING CIRCLES. * A further slight rise in the prices for dairy produce on the London markets has been reflected in buoyancy in buying in Taranaki, although returns will not be greatly affected, the tone/ of the market is better than for some time. Buyers have been active in the province recently, - and a New Plymouth dairy company, secretary reports having received offers of B|d for butter and 4 5-8 d for cheese, April and May. make. These * offers in few instances have been accepted. Nearly , all tile factories, having consigned so far through the season, are pursuing 1 'that policy to the end. No reasons have been forthcoming for the sudden brightening of the produce markets. There has been no falling off. in supplies, the stocks in Tooley Street being almost as high as at any previous stage during the season. Offers of BJd made for April-May make of butter were later increased to 8-7-Bd, while yesterday morning the offers were further ad-, vanced to 9d, but it is imderstod factories are reluctant to deal, preferring to continue consignment policy. \ _ Reports received from representatives of London firms are:—

H. M. Thomson (Anglo-Continental Produce Company): Butter, 72s to 745; cheese, white 425, coloured 465. This is an increase of 7s for butter, 6s for white cheese and Ss for coloured on the quotations ruling only a week ago. • Joseph Nathan and Co., Ltd.: Butter,. 745; white cheese, 425, coloured 475. Both markets are firm and there is a good demand. Sentiment on both markets is much improved. We strongly advise factories not to sell at this juncture. Mr. E. Griffiths (A. J. Mills and Co.): Both markets are firmer. Butter is’quoted at 745, white cheese at 42s and coloured at 475. Arrivals are well sold up.
