NOTIFIABLE DISEASES
CASES REPORTED IN APRIL. Sixteen cases of diphtheria were notified during April, states the monthly report of the Taranaki district medical officer of health (Dr. M. Champtaloup). This was a decrease of seven on the number in the previous month and an increase of 13 on the number in April, 1932. A total of 33 cases of notifiable disease were reported during April, compared with 43 in March, 1933, and 11 in April, 1932. Four cases of scarlet fever were notified, compared with three in March and two in the previous April, and six cases of lethargic encephalitis, none having been reported in March of this year or April of last year. There have been 47 reported cases of diphtheria since the beginning of the year, compared with 20 for the same period last year, and 12 cases of acute poliomyelitis, of which there were none from January to April, 1932. The total number of cases of notifiable disease this year has been 105, an increase of 46 on the same period of 1932.
