SENIOR FOOTBALL BEGUN. The Niho Niho senior football team played its first game of the season on Saturday against Matiere. For the first game some good football was played. Although another 14 minutes was played after the whistle had sounded time neither side had scored a point. The tournament rule that first team to force down loses was not brought into force probably be.ause everyone expected one side to score at any moment. The position will be put before the union for a decision. This round being a knock-out round for the Baker Cup, it rather upsets the fixtures. Heao beat Ohura at Ohura. General Items. Mrs. Julian is now well established in her new home on the hill. From the old site it was a good distance uphill to the farm buildings, but now it is most convenient and the fear of a flooded house has gone. Mr. S. Stevenson, postmaster at Niho Niho, having gained permission from the Ohura County Council, has moved the post office to higher ground. Mr. Stevenson also intends to remove his home beyond flood level. An officer of the Auckland Automobile Association has recently erected numerous signboards in this locality, some replacing old ones, while several new roads have been named. The Niho Niho football field was marked and the goal posts erected by a working bee during the week-end. Some of the silt deposited on the tennis courts was also removed by the busy band of workers.
Mr. Christensen was surprised to see a large white cockatoo flying on his property on Sunday afternoon. It is probably a pet and has travelled a good distance as no-one can recollect anyone in a big radius owning such a pet
