OKATO DISTRICT NEWS
The Meredith Cup annual football match between Rahotu and Okato was played at the Okato domain on Saturday afternoon. After a keen struggle the game ended in a draw, three-all. Mr. S. Roebuck was referee. An unfortunate accident occurred during the progress of the game, L. King, of the Okato team, receiving a severe blow on the hip. He was admitted to hospital, but the severity of his injury is not known. That wind-borne ragwort seed is serious is shown by a statement by Mr, w. B Smith, Newall Road. A few years ago Mr. Smith’s farm was free. from, ragwort, and despite the fact that he has always been vigilant, three men have been employed spraying intermittently for five months during the past season. In this period he has used seven cwt. of sodium chlorate.
