REFUSAL OF £500.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l read with feelings of disgust of the refusal of the Auckland Community Sunshine Association to accept £5OO from the Easter art union. I should like to know if these worthy gentlemen trace every gift to its source, but I fear they don’t; otherwise they would have many a surprise, and would have closed their camps long before this. Life is a gamble, and their refusal spells continued illhealth and probable death to several children. Why should the scruples of a fevz men be allowed to bar the joys of health to the rising generation? Their action should not be allowed to pass unchallenged by the people of New Zealand who, I suppose, have contributed hundreds of pounds towards the establishment of these camps, and do not share their view of art unions. Direct support is impossible to most individuals at present, and it seems to me a strange thing to turn away a wonderful gift of £5OO offered so generously by the Government.—l am, etc,, ANTI-HUMBUG.
