POPULARITY IN SAVOY OPERAS.

PLAYED SCHUBERT IN “LILAC TIME”

The death has occurred of Mr. John Ralston, a well-known theatrical artist. He began his stage education as a member of Tom Pollard’s Company of Lilliputians. He toured New Zealand for a number of years.

In March, 1932, Mr. Ralston delighted New Plymouth audiences in his parts as a member of J. C. Williamson’s Gilbert and Sullivan Light Opera Company. That was not the first time he made many admirers in Taranaki. He will be remembered for his part as Schubert in “Lilac Time.” In the Savoy Operas he played the Grand Inquisitor in “The Gondoliers,” Pooh-Bah in “The Mikado,” Shadbolt in “Yeomen of the Guard,” and Private Wills in “lolanthe.” As PoohBah and Shadbolt he. was most popular.
