PRESIDENT RETIRES.

FAREWELL TO MRS. W. E. CARTER.

A pleasant afternoon was spent last Thursday when there was a large gathering of the Hawera branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union to do honour to the retiring president, Mrs. W. E. Carter, Mangatoki. Visitors from a number of neighbouring branches were present. Mrs. A. E. Death was in the chair.

Mrs. Death made a presentation of a fountain pen to Mrs. Carter. Mrs. D. M. Cameron (president of the Okaiawa branch) presented a bouquet of autumn-tinted flowers and spoke in appreciation of. the many times she and Mrs. Carter had met in division work. They started together six years ago as president and vice-president respectively of the Hawera branch and had been closely associated in the work ever since. Songs were sung by Miss Audrey Marsh (Ararata) and recitations were given by Mrs. Robb. There was also community singing.
