PLUMBERS’ WAGES DISPUTE
BOTH PARTIES STAND FIRM. COMMISSIONER NEGOTIATING, By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, March 29. “We are unanimous in turning down the employers’ offer,” said Mr. H. Thompson, Wellington, when the Conciliation Council resumed the hearing of the plumbers’ wages dispute. Mr. T. MacDonald, for the employers, said that Is 101 d an hour was their limit. Mr. Thompson said that the union was quite willing to refer the whole matter to the Arbitration Court, but not the matter of wages alone. The union asked 2s an hour. Word had been received that the electricians of the North Island had been granted 2s o£d. A deadlock resulted, anil the commissioner is conferring with both parties.
