YOUTHFUL ATHLETES
CONTESTS AT STRATFORD. ANNUAL PRIMARY SPORTS. About 400 pupils of the Stratford primary school were given an opportunity at the annual sports yesterday to compete in an extensive range of athletic and novelty events. For many weeks the children have been preparing, and when the morning dawned fine and clear youthful hopes were realised. Victoria Park was in splendid order. It is compulsory for pupils to compete unless they are indisposed or have some other good reason for not entering, and consequently large fields lined up before the starters for every event. Even if the stipulation were not in force it is doubtful if the entries would have been any fewer, such was the general enthusiasm displayed. The girl champions were: Senior, Thelma Skellem (12pts.) 1, Mavis Me Cutcheon (5), Olga Rogers (3); intermediate, Dorothy Nowell (12), Betty Steele (6), Hilda Hedgeman (4); junior, Rita Ross (13), Edna Mather and Constance Thomson (5).
