TO REFER WAGES TO COURT
EMPLOYERS’ FIRST SUGGESTION. PROGRESS IN PLUMBING DISPUTE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night For the first time at Christchurch since the passing of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1932, the employers’ assessors in an industrial dispute at a sitting of the Conciliation Council proposed that the question of wages be referred to the Arbitration Court The parties were the New Zealand Federation of Master Plumbers, who applied for a Dominion award for the industry, and the New Zealand Federation of Plumbers’ and Fasfitters’ Unions
Agreement on most points of the proposals of the employers was reached but the employers stipulated that acceptance by the union of all their, other proposals should be a condition of their suggestion to refer wages to the Arbitration Court. The union assessors will jive their answer to-morrow.
