ANTMEWISH CAMPAIGN SUPPORT OF GOVERNMENT “FLOOD OF MALICIOUS LIES” EMPLOYMENT TO BE LIMITED FEELING SPREADS ABROAD By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 7 p.m. Berlin, March 28. The Nazis are launching an antiJewish campaign, tacitly supported by the Government, which is furious at the “flood of malicious lies” inundating certain countries. Special committees will organise boycotts of Jewish firms as reprisals against the threatened boycott of German goods. The public will demand that the employment of Jews be confined to the law, medicine, education and the civil service in accordance with the Jewish quota of population, which is 1 per cent. Every anti-German demonstration abroad will be countered by an anti-Jewish demonstration in Germany. Nazis at Sofia dispersed a Jewish meeting of protest and broke the windows of a synagogue and the- Jewish headquarters. Numerous arrests were made.
UNITED STATES’ PROTEST
MILLION JEWS GATHER
DAY DEVOTED TO PRAYER
Rec. 10 p.m. New York, March 27. Despite the State Department’s announcement based on reports from the Embassy at Berlin stating in part that “where there was for a short time considerable physical mistreatment of the Jews this phase may be considered virtually terminated,” the American Jewry devoted to-day to prayers and fasting. To-night it was estimated that 1,000,000 Jews gathered throughout the country to militantly protest against Herr Hitler’s treatment of co-religionists. In most cases representatives of Christian churches participated. At New York 20,000 crowded Madison Square Garden and another 1000 met out of doors and heard a series of addresses broadcast throughout the country and internationally. The speakers in addition to Jewish leaders included Mr. Alfred Smith and the Mayor, Mr. O’Brien. Messages of approval were read from practically every State Governor. The tenor of the speeches disclaimed hostility to Germany but declared that outrages against the Jews must cease. The meetings drafted . a demand to that effect for presentation to the German Government through the Ambassador, Herr von Prittwitz.
