SLIGHT INCREASE DISCLOSED. ANALYSIS OF THE FIGURES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night Unemployed registrations in New Zealand on March 18 were 66,652, an increase of 807 compared with the returns a month earlier, according to a statement issued by the Unemployment Board today. Of the 66,652 5585 men are ineligible for relief, leaving a total of 61,067 a charge on the board’s funds. Of these it is estimated that at least 29,500 were engaged in work of. a definitely reproductive and developmental nature in connection with the primary industries. The following figures show the way the men in work are engaged: Camp scheme land improvement and development, 2175; highways and backblocks roads, 2264; afforestation (mostly State Forest Service), 409; building scheme subsidy, 1808; gold prospecting scheme (exclusive of 1762 men prospecting under scheme No. 5), 455; miscellaneous (subsidised employment in various industries), 370.
