Mrs. A. J. Coad and Miss Joan Coad returned last Friday from a short stay at the Hotel Majestic, Palmerston North. Mrs. F. Fussell, who has been visiting New Plymouth, will return to her home at Napier to-day. Mrs. E. P. Webster and Miss Joan Webster returned in the week-end from a visit to Wellington. Mrs. J. C. Nicholson and Mrs. E. Reid left by ear on Sunday on a trip to the South Island. Mrs. Sydney Allen left during the week-end on a visit to Featherston, Wellington and Dannevirke. Miss Bayly and Miss Nellie Bayly, Fiji, who are touring New Zealand, arrived at New Plymouth in the weekend and are the guests of Mrs. A. Keeling. Mrs. H. R. Kemp, Hawera, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. F. J. Morris, has returned home. Miss Mary Harvey, Waverley, was a visitor to New Plymouth this week. Miss Allison Old, Hawera, who has been the guest of Mrs. W. H. Hawkins, returned during the week-end. Miss C. Palmer returned last week from an extensive holiday tour of the north. Miss Phyllis Gannaway and Miss Kath Sims were visitors to New Plymouth for the week-end. Mrs. Winfield is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Hugh McWilliam, Hawera. Mrs. W. Kirkby is spending a holiday at Auckland. .. A large party of young people paid a surprise visit to Mrs. H. S.-Weston on Saturday evening, when an enjoyable time was spent in dancing. MRS. GOSNELL FAREWELLED. FITZROY METHODIST GUILD. Tn view of her early departure for, Hastings, Mrs. R. B. Gosnell was entertarried by the members of the Fitzroy Methodist Ladies’ Guild, of which she has been a prominent member for three
years. The gathering was presided over by Mrs. Andrews, the president, and there was an> attendance of 35 ladies of the guild. Vocal and instrumental items were given by several members, and during the afternoon advantage was taken of the opportunity to present Mrs. Gosnell with a handbag. Mrs. Andrews referred to the happy relationships prevailing in the Guild and thanked Mrs. Gosnell for all her work. Afternoon tea was provided by the guild and a very pleasant afternoon spent Mrs. Gosnell, in addition to the cares of a family of young children, has always taken a keen interest in social work and every week for several years has sent out parcels to deserving families. STRATFORD PERSONAL ITEMS. Miss Marjorie Cutfield, who has been spending a holiday at Dannevirke, Rangitikei and Palmerston North, has returned home. Mr. and Mrs. Lewers have returned from a visit to Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. D. Pirrit, Te Kauwhata, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. Barwick, Te Wera. Miss Amy Cook, whp has been visiting Wellington, has returned. Mrs. J. Purdy, Cardiff, went last week to Wellington, \where she will spend a month’s holiday. Miss C. Raynor, Cardiff, has gone to Christchurch on an extended holiday. Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Cardiff, have returned home from Wellington. PATEA PARAGRAPHS. Mrs. Mcßeidy, ’Wellington, arrived at Patea yesterday. She will be the guest of Mrs. H. Papps. A coming-of-age party at which Miss Vera Anderson Was the guest of honour was held at Mrs. F, Fitzwater’s residence on Saturday. Members of the Central Basketball Club, of which Miss Anderson is a member, attended with a party of friends and relatives. Supper was served in the dining-room beneath a canopy of red and yellow streamers, and numerous presents were given Miss Anderson by Mr. F. Fitzwater on behalf of those present. A musical programme was enjoyed, with competitions until a late hour.
STRATFORD ITEMS. ; Miss Joyce Carman spent the week-end at New Plymouth. Miss Jean Macßae was the guest of Mrs. Herdson, New Plymouth, for the Aero Club’s balk Mrs. R. Masters went to Wellington on Tuesday. Miss Helen Rutherford, who has been the guest of Miss Lucy Penn for the week-end, has returned to her home at New Plymouth. The Misses Myra Wilson, Kathie Dixon and Jean Macßae were visitors to New Plymouth for the Aero Club ball. Mr. and Mrs. A. Lobb have returned home after a holiday spent at New Plymouth. Miss Jean Jackson is spending a holiday with relatives at Auckland. Miss Malone is away holiday-making with relatives. Miss Bartosh has left Stratford to take up her residence in the south. Miss Mavis Darrel is visiting Mrs. J. Richards, Cardiff. Mr. and Mrs. A. Hancock, who have been spending a holiday at New Plymouth, have returned to their home at Cardiff. Mrs. Homabrook, who has been the guest of Mrs. Glasgow, has returned to Wellington. Mrs. T. L. Paget is the guest of Mrs. W. H. Young. Miss Molly Lyons is holiday-making at Wellington as the guest of her aunt, Miss Hodgens. Interest is being taken in the visit of Miss Elizabeth Blake, who will be _at Stratford early in April and will give some scenes from Noel Coward’s “Cavalcade” at S. Mary’s School. Miss Blake is anxious to form a branch of the British Dramatic League at Stratford, where there are already some members. A surprise party to celebrate the com-ing-of-age of Charles, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Bell, Wharehuia, visited his home last week. Amongst those present were Mesdames T. Bell, Widmer, Wellington, Jago, Vivian, Skuse, Misses Bell (3), F. Ho'sking, N. Wellington, I. Bird, K. Wellington, E. Jago, E. Wellington, M. Phillips and E. Skuse.
