NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN
IDEALS OF THE MOVEMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, March 28. About 30 delegates were present at the National Council of Women conference. The council has nine branches with a membership of 37,600, and there are 164 affiliated societies. The. activities last year were outlined in the secretary’s report. It was stated that some of the branches had taken an active part in assisting unemployed women and girls. Resolutions had been sent to the proper authorities with regard to many matters, including the illicit sale of liquor, the nationality .of married women, the appointment of a woman on the Unemployment Board, the protest against the Sale- of pernicious literature and other subjects. In her presidential address Miss B. E. Carnachan said that the study of modem affairs showed clearly that the nations of the world were inextricably bound .together, and they must build hones oh. a common solution. To do this they must have an international understanding,. and the members of the National Council of Women should take the .lead in bringing this about. They j were working for the future and might ,S never see the . fruits of their labour, but * they'could rest assured that the effects of the work would be more colossal than could possibly be imagined. She was sure that the society was working along right lines, but they miist realise the immensity and importance of the task, which must be attempted willingly, earnestly ahd humbly.
