POLICE APPOINTMENT

SEVERAL PROMOTIONS MADE. SUPERINTENDENT’S RETIREMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, March 10. Consequent upon, the retirement of Superintendent W. Eccles from control of the Dunedin police district, Inspector James Mcllveney has been transferred to Dunedin as superintendent. Mr. Mcllveney will be replaced at Wanganui by Sub-Inspector R. Ward, at present stationed at Wellington, who has been promoted to the rank of inspector. Inspector Ward will be replaced as chief detective at Wellington by Sub-Inspector J. Carroll, who is at present chief detective at Christchurch. The vacancy at Christchurch will be filled by SeniorDetective W. H. Dunlop.
