KAIMATA-WAITUI RUGBY

AMALGAMATION OF CLUBS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Messrs. J. .Klenner, I. V. Buchanan, K. Riley and R. Klenner represented the Kaimata Football Club at a meeting called in the Waitui Hall on Tuesday night to discuss the proposal to unite this season in the competition for the Schneider Trophy. Mr. Stachurski preside dover a wellattended meeting. He said that when the Kaimata club was formed last year it was intended to include the Waitui district, but owing to insufficient notice the Waitui people were not' present at the meeting and in consequence raised a team of their own. The result was that two weak teams Were formed where there should have been one strong one.

Mr. Klenner said that the Kaimata representatives had come that evening to see if the Waitui- players were prepared to join with Kaimata this year. He pointed out that each team was practically confined to one long strip-of road and that these roads were no great distance apart. Last year each team had difficulty in raising a full 15 on several occasions, and each had suffered from insufficient players to compose two teams for practice purposes. By their combining these difficulties would be overcome, and even, though they combined they would not have as large a district as many of the other clubs with which they would have to compete. Mr. Buchanan said it was most unfortunate that Waitui representatives had not been present at the inaugural meeting of the Kaimata club, as it had been the intention when forming the club to include the Waitui district in its territory. It was recognised at the time that it would be very difficult for each district to raise and keep separate teams in the field. If the two districts now combined as was the original intention a strong A team could be placed in the field for the shield match, and matches would also be arranged for a B team, if sufficient players were forthcoming. With the districts combined this should be possible, and an endeavour would be made to raise a B team so that every player should get a game. The idea in forming the club was to keep the young people contented with country life. Mr. Riley pointed out the size of the other districts competing in the shield competitions as compared with the Kaimata and Waitui districts; many of these included several experienced players, he added.

In answer to questions Mr. Buchanan said it was intended that each district should be represented evenly upon the new committee, that there would be a selector from each district, and that matches and meetings would be held alternately at Kaimata and Waitui. It was proposed that Bristol Road should be included, up to the Inglewood boundary. Mr. Searle said the best players would have to be picked for the shield match irrespective of which of the two districts they were drawn from. To this all agreed. On the motion of Mr. Stachurski it was unanimously agreed that the districts combine, and it was arranged that a general meeting be called at the Kaimata hall to elect officers for the club and to arrange various details.
