CLIFTON COUNTY RATES

OVER £lO9O OUTSTANDING. General rates totalling £9BO Ils and special rates to the value of £lB2 12s 5d are outstanding in the Clifton County, according to the chairman’s statement to the council at Waitara yesterday. The chairman (Mr. H. A. Foreman) said the amount outstanding, was larger than at the same time last year. The council had to decide whether the list of debtors should be handed direct to the solicitors and collection sought in that way or whether notices should first be sent’ to the ratepayers concerned demanding payment within a month. It was decided to adopt the latter course. Failing responses the necessary further steps could then be taken. The amounts outstanding in the ridings are: —Mokau £lB2 3s lid, Uruti £ll2 13s 6d, Urenui £l9 Os 6d, Tikorangi £l2, Waihi £54 18s Bd.
