RADNOR ROAD NEWS
EXCURSION TO MOTUROA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Radnor school held its annual picnic at Moturoa in company with the Midhirst and surrounding schools last Thursday. During the dinner hour a large party was shown over the s.s. Port Napier by the chief officer. Considerable interest was taken in the landing of a 561 b. stingray caught off the Newton King wharf. The weather was disappointing, the sky being overcast, and a heavy shower of rain falling during the lunch hour. A friendly game of tennis was played between Midhirst and Radnor Road at Radnor Road during the week-end, the visiting team winning with four sets to three, or a total of 18 games to 16. The results are, the visiting players mentioned first: Miss N. Burton and A. Thompson defeated Miss Vickers and S. Reid 6—5; Miss C. Copeland and L. Copeland lost to P.. Anderson and Mrs. Watts 2—3; Mrs. Platt and M. Costelli .lost to Miss B. Hunt and C. Kelly o—3; Miss O’Keefe and R. Burton defeated Miss D. Kaspar and H. Vickers 3—o; Miss Jensen and D. Harkness defeated Mrs. Hunt and Watts 3—2; Mrs. Graham and S. Copeland defeated Mrs. Askew and Mapp 3—o; Miss Boniface and R. Harkness lost to Mrs. Hunt and R. Vickers I—-3.1 —-3. Owing to the rainy weather very little tennis has been played during the last fortnight, the following ladder matches having taken place: Mrs. Askew (challenger) defeated Miss I. Vickers 6 —4; Mrs. Reid (challenger) defeated Mrs. Watts 6—4; Mrs. Reid (challenger) defeated Miss I. Vickers 6—3; Reid (challenger) defeated R. Vickers 6—4. Mr. A. J. Rookes has returned home from hospital. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. and Miss Isabel Tucker, Auckland, are visiting relatives in the district.
