SUPPLY OF ELECTRICITY
INGLEWOOD COUNCIL ACTION NO MORE FROM NEW PLYMOUTH. AGREEMENT WITH POWER BOARD. FURTHER CONSIDERATION OF CASE A decision not to purchase electricity from the New Plymouth Borough Council after the expiration of the present contract, made by the Inglewood Borough Council at its last meeting, was communicated to the New Plymouth Council last night. The council was of the opinion that further consideration should be given to the position and the matter was referred to the electric light committee. The Inglewood Borough Council’s letter .stated the council had entered into an agreement with the Taranaki Electric Power Board for the supply of electric power for a period of 10 years from the date of the expiration of the existing contract with the New Plymouth Borough Council. The following resolution was passed by the Inglewood Council: “That the New Plymouth Borough Council be informed that the reason for completing a contract with the Taranaki Electric-Power Board is that as the judgment of the Court of Appeal now stands the New Plymouth Council could not supply the Inglewood borough with electric current after September 30, 1933, and it was imperative to make early arrangements to ensure continuity of electrical supply for the borough and consumers.” The case between the New Plymouth Borough Council and the Taranaki Power Board concerning the supply of electricity is now awaiting the decision of the Privy Council. The Appeal Court of New Zealand some months, ago reversed a decision of the Supreme Court in which Mr. Justice MacGregor held that the borough of New Plymouth had the right to supply electric power to the boroughs of Inglewood and Waitara on the grounds that they were “adjoining” districts to the borough of New Plymouth. The case was thereupon taken by the council to the Privy Council.
