ELLIOT CLOSELY PRESSED.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The annual athletic and cycling championships of the Auckland amateur centre were decided on Saturday afternoon. Two New Zealand records were equalled, Elliot, the Olympic representative, winning the 100 yards in 9 4-5 s and .Kerr Taylor the quarter mile hurdles in 56 4-ss. , Elliot was fully extended in the 100 and 220 yards by Walker,' a very promising young runner. The judges had difficulty in deciding in the 220 yards, eventually giving the decision-., in favour of Elliot by inches. A feature of the afternoon was the defeat of Savidon, the Dominion champion and Olympic representative and British Empire six miles champion by M. F. Cooper in the three miles. The pair led alternately over the respective laps until 200 yards from home, where Cooper made a determined effort and, sustaining his sprint, defeated his redoubtable op-' ponent by five yards. He received a great ovation from the crowd. , „ Byrnes won the half mile, mile and five miles cycling titles.
