FITZROY SURFING ENTHUSIAST'S. PICNIC PARTIES AT NGAMOTU. The Ngamotu and Fltzroy beaches. New Plymouth, were well patronised yesterday, when as large crowds as have been seen this year assembled to enjoy the sun and the sea. The excursion train from Hawera brought many people from there and intermediate stations. A splendid tide provided high water for the greater part of the afternoon. ‘ At Fitzrpy surf teams competed for the Tabor Shield, and that proved an attraction for many visitors as w6ll as more than the usual gathering, of New Plymouth residents. Fairly heavy breakers were an endless attraction to surf enthusiasts, and all the afternoon the sea was black with bobbing heads. When the tide began to ebb there, was a distinct wash towards the Waiwakaiho River, but the assembled surf teams were not provided with any real rescue work. Parking space at Ngamotu was scarce; several thousand people must have been swimming there during the afternoon. The many picnic parties indicated that the bulk of the excursion train passengers had gone on to the port water before alighting.
