OIL FLOW AT MOTUROA
QUANTITY IN THE No. 3 WELL. PETROLEUM FOLLOWS GAS. A quantity of oil obtained at ; the Moturoa Oil Fields’ No. 3 well on Saturday succeeded the heavy gas pressure experienced at the end of the week. While there was only a slight indication of oil in the well on Friday, a quantity estimated to be about 15 per cent, of the sludge brought up appeared on Saturday.
Mr. C. N. Taylor, managing director, stated on Saturday that it was impossible at that stage to estimate the actual quantity of oil as the gas had forced several hundred feet of debris and sludge into the casing. There was the possibility that the well would have to be closed pending the arrival of additional equipment. “The present indications check up with the company’s experience at No. 2 well, where a steady pressure of inflammable gas flowed for several days before oil came into the well,” said Mr. Taylor.
Mr. H. chairman of directors of Moturoa Oil Fields Ltd., who arrived at New Plymouth from Dunedin yesterday, stated he was more than gratified with the work done at the well in connection with No. 3 bore and with the prospects for the future of all the bores.
