BIG RACE TO KEWPIE’S GUY NICOYA’S DOUBLE VICTORY. TOTALISATOR INCREASE £6OOO. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The Auckland Trotting Club’s February meeting opened to-day. The weather was fine except for a heavy downpour between the second and third races. The track was in good order. The win and place system of betting was introduced for the first time at Auckland and proved a gx;eat success, a total of £20,135 being put through the tdtalisator, compared with £14,022 10s on the first day last year, an increase of £6112 10s. Last year the first , day was postponed from Saturday to Monday owing to rain. The results are:— ■ ' TRIAL HANDICAP. Of £llO. Won by a length and a-quarter, a length and a-half between second and third. Time, 3m. 20 2-ss. Otara soon opened up a break of about ten lengths and at the end of three furlongs Nicoya was second. Mattie Herbilwyn made a good run and was second to Nicoya turning for home. Nicoya went on to win comfortably. Autuhxn Lu was a poor fourth. WAIHEKE HANDICAP. Of £llO. Edna Worthy ran up to show the way into the straight and held her own to win well. Raider was fourth. \ OTAHUHU HANDICAP. Of £3OO. Two miles. 2- GUY, limit (Smith) 1 3- FIRST FLIGHT, limit (Broughton) 2 7- AUTO MACHINE, 60yds (Brown) 3 Also started: 4-5 Kewpie’s Triumph, 6-6 Raydus, 1-1 Silver D’Oro, 2-2 Pageant, limit (bracketed with winner); 5-7 Wihna Dillon, 12yds bhd; 4-3 Peter Pirate, 48yds. Won by a short neck, a length between second and third. Time, 4m. 335. Kewpie’s Guy took third place to Raydus and Kewpie’s Triumph at the mile post, and these three led entering the last circuit. Kewpie’s Triumph led into the straight but faded in the run home. In an exciting finish Kewpie’s Guy secured the verdict , by a '.short neck. Pageant was fourth.

Won by two lengths, a long neck between second and third.. Time, 3m. 325. Parrish Belle gained an early lead of about twelve lengths from Zanzibar and Bessie Parrish. In the final circuit Nicoya moved up and crossing the top was close to Parrish Belle. ' He then came on to win .easily. MOSS DAVIS MEMORIAL. Of £145. One mile and a-qiiarter. 3- SILVER. This was the order passing the stand, and there was no change down the back. Silver D’Oro had no difficulty in winning.
