TARANAKI POLO SELECTION
CRITICISM OF PERSONNEL. (By '‘Beltmail.”) The Taranaki team for Napier is opess to criticism, but nevertheless is a . solid combination. Toomey in goal could not be bettered, although Yeate- is now his equal Maclean, and Evans as ths full-backs are both strong players, .but Maclean has had little experience and against players of the calibre that will be met at Napier may be inclined to make mistakes. Evans is sound but not brilliant. Kivell at centre half is the best man for the position in Taranaki, neither Plumtree nor Lealand being.sure enough ,on recent performances. In the forward line, speed, deft and accurate handling and endurance will be absolutely necessary. R. Crossman with his left hand throw and long experience in the position is an excellent man for one wing. In the absence of H. J. Thomas Campbell would be a more reliable player than Anderson, ■ while Ryan appears the best .of the rather poor set of centre forwards in Taranaki at present. Beaven is rather inexperienced at present, otherwise he would be preferred." ’ The’ idea! team would appear to be: Goal, Toomey or Yeates; full-backs, C. Allen and K. Staunton (New Plymouth); centre half, W. Kivell (Inglewood); forwards, C. Campbell (Fitzjroy), A. Ryan . (Hawera), R. Crossman (Inglewood).
