Hops were one of the earliest crops in Noirnanby. It is recorded that to provide cheap labour in picking the school children were given two days’ holiday. It is not clear whether the teacher shared in the picking or the holiday. Remarkable progress has been made by the Normanby Horticultural Society during the last few years of depression. The very creditable performance ot improving the finances by well over £2OO in three years is something of which the officers may be proud.
