Such street names in Normanby ah Von Tempsky, Chute, Brett, Hunter, Tuke, Butter, Robson, Kate and Gore are permanent records of the old Armed Constabulary and military. Normanby's town hall was erected by a private company in the early 80’s. Subsequently it was acquired by Mr. William Rowe, from whom the town board purchased it in 1891 for £2OO.

Many of the early settlers of Normanby acquired sections and then disappeared. At present the addresses of the owners of 31 sections are unknown, the occupiers paying the rates. Just on the Normanby side of what is called Winks’ crossing are two posts close together, marking the old gateway to a railway station of the early days. Not far away there was a site for a school. Both were part of the endeavour made to have the township on the Hawera side of its present position.
