DEPARTURE REGRETTED

FAREWEL LTO MR. M. C. CRIGHTON. POPULAR AND ABLE SECRETARY. A special meeting of the general committee of the Egmont A. and P. Association was held at Hawera on Saturday morning, when the resignation of’ the secretary, Mr. M. C. Crighton, was accepted with regret and a minute expressing appreciation of the services he had rendered the association during .the last 11 years was placed on record. The president, Mr. C. H. Washer, said the committee met with very mixed feelings. Mr. Crighton had run two shows while the speaker was president, and he had none but the happiest memories of the work they had done together. The success of these efforts had been largely due to the capable organisation of the ■ secretary, .who was the right man in the right place. “Our only regret,” said Mr. Washer, “is that he will not be with us to run our jubilee show, which will take place in November next.” They would, however, all join in congratulating Mr. Crighton on his promotion. As town clerk of Kaponga he was sure that he would prove an invaluable acquisition # to that township. Mr. W. McL’Dowie said he had been president for three years during Mr. Crighton’s term of office and had had first-hand knowledge of the secretary’s good qualifications. He congratulated Kaponga on having secured his services. Mr. E. A. Washer admitted he had been partly responsible for introducing Mr. Crighton to the “trouble and worry” of the last 11 years, but during that time he had, never seen him once lose his temper. \ ■ \ In reply Mr. Crighton recalled how 11 years ago he had undertaken to run the show at six weeks’ notice. He thanked members for their continued co-opera-tion with him since that time.' His was not a one-man job, and since he had • been there he had received nothing but the most loyal co-operation from the committee and the president. He thank- ; ed the speakers, .saying that he was in many ways sorry to be going. Mr." E. K. Cameron was appointed auditor of the association’s books. • AN INFORMAL FAREWELL. Later on Saturday afternoon an informal gathering, took place at the .Cen- 4 jral Hotel, when a few of the committee joined in wishing Mr. Crighton a happy future. On behalf of the committee Mr. E. A: Washer presented the guest with a silver teapot. Other speakers were Messrs. C. H. Washer, W. McL’Dowie, J. Thomlinson, W. V. Parker and J. Kerrisk, jun., who added their congratulations on Mr. Crighton’s advancement and their regret at his departure. .<.* Mr. Crighton briefly thanked those present.
