MANGATOKI NEWS

SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent). The Mangatoki school committee met on Monday evening. Present; Messrs. B. H. Parker (chairman), H. N. Dudley, C. W. Carlson and J. Johnson. In reply to a letter from the secretary of the Normanby jubilee committee it was regretted a holiday could not be granted on February 22 owing to the more strict enforcement of the regulations by the Education Department. The dental clinic representative reported that the Mangatoki children were now due for treatment but some parents had not paid their fees, thus excluding their children from treatment. It was decided to recommend the affiliation of the South Taranaki School Committee Association with the Dominion Federation. A previous minute providing for a garden party in February to raise funds for a school picnic was rescinded. It was decided to canvass the district for funds to provide for a school and district picnic at Opunake on February 24. The headmaster reported the roll number as 66, the same as last year, and the average attendance 63. Mr. Dudley was welcomed back after his recent illness at Wellington. The chairman reported on work done in the gardens and grounds during the vacation. Matches for the Egmont Cup tennis competition with Otakeho and Matapu have been postponed during the past week owing to the weather. In a ladder match Miss Joan Nicholas beat Miss Phyllis Parker 6—3.
