At Monday evening’s meeting of the Inglewood Volunteer Fire Brigade Superintendent Crossman stated that it had come to his knowledge that a number of residents who owned motor vehicles had laid in a stock of petrol before the taxation came into effect in order to avoid the rise in price. This petrol was stored in the borough, which was contrary to the provisions of the Dangerous Goods Act, said the superintendent, and moreover the insurance companies would refuse to pay on fires occurring in premises in which the benzine was stored. Mr. Crossman said that the most serious aspect of the position was that in the event of a fire the benzine would probably cause an explosion and the firemen would be liable to incur injury; possibly there would be a fatality.,
