POLICY OF STRENGTHENING THEM. (British Official Wireless). Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, Feb. 13. Answering a Parliamentary question, Sir Samuel Hoare, Secretary for India, said that at the end of January the gold held' in India’s gold standard and paper currency reserves amounted to about £33,250,000’ valued at par. In addition the sterling holding was 25,750,000. Further strengthening of the reserves' was the accepted object of the policy, but the precise steps to be taken to that end must depend on circumstances. In the

past twelve months the reserves had been strengthened by £15,500,000.
