PATEA STREETS PROGRAMME. In order that the fullest possible value to the borough should result from the employment of workers under the No. 5 scheme a programme of street improvements has been prepared and was adopted by the Patea Borough Council on Monday. The plan was prepared after a tour of 'the borough by the council and embraces work on grass side streets and improving gradients in streets in the town, notably Chester Street and Vic« toria Street east. The work will not ba undertaken in the order shown but as determined by the the streets supervisor (Cr. F. Naismith). The programme is:— Livingstone Street: Widen the cutting, form a watertable, metal from Paterson’s gate to Sharp’s. Cut trees from read and cut overhanging trees well back. Cut all blackberry and other rubbish and generally clean. Egmont Street: Cut off all grass on inner edge of and build up shoulders of. main highway. Build concrete kerb from Meredith Street to Victoria Street and build up with metal and seal shoulder and side Of road from Meredith to Victoria Street. On the corner of Victoria and Egmont Streets the metal is to be attended to and sealed for a short distance down Victoria Street The sump at this comer to be attended to and provision for a side entry. Egmont Street south: The road at entrance to rifle range to be levelled nd widened to make a suitable turning
point for cars. The shoulders and sides to be sealed for a short distance down Bedford Street; also sides to be sealed at comer, of Rutland Street and Egmont Street. Tar seal foopath between Meredith Street and . the comer. of Bedford and Egmont Street, a distance of two chains. Scotland Street: Remove all tree stumps. Fall and cut for removal old trees on boundary at the gate.
Monmouth Street: Clean the stormwater drain. Cut all gorse and weeds bordering this drain and repair fence protecting' it ' Victoria Street:. The stormwater drain under the.road.having collapsed at some time and trouble being experienced with drainage, it is. proposed to excavate drain for distance of subsidence, and fill with spoil, relay and level, to put in new concrete sump, such new sump to be brought a few feet nearer the stormwater. drain or to be placed directly over it A short concrete kerb is also to be built to prevent scour. . General clean-up:—Victoria Street east: Widen, straighten and; raise filling in dip. Batter the bank in front of the nurses’ home using the spoil in filling and widening the dip. The water pipes will, require lowering. Chester Street: 'Batter off bank and use the spoil to raise tlie road. Any surplus to be used in dip in Victoria Street east.
Leicester Street: Patch road and footpath where scour has taken, place and cut all weeds and give a : general square up. ’ •, ( . Cornwall' Street: Patch all holes m footpath and roadway. ' ‘
