DEATH OF OLD VETERAN
SAW CRIMEAN AND PERSIAN WARS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. . Dunedin, Last Night. The death occurred at Dunedin on Saturday, at the age of 98 years, of Edward Smith, a naval veteran of the Crimean and Persian wars and the Indian mutiny. He was attracted to New Zealand by the gold rushes of the early ’sixties, and for about 30 years.followed mining pursuits in various parts of the South Island.
