? Miss Ruth; Alexander, Waverley, who has been spending some weeks with Mrs. H. R. H. Livingstone at Ohawe, returned home on Thursday. . Mrs. Mair, Hunterville, is visiting h, cr daughter, Mrs. T. H. McWilliam. Mr. and Mrs. Neil Douglas returned on Tuesday from a tour of the Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa and Wellington districts, and will be staying with Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Washer for a week or two prior to taking up residence at' Stratford. Mrs. H. Crump, .Wellington, accompanied by' Mrs. Crump senr., is staying with her sister, Mrs. Alwright. . Mrs. H. R. Kemp and Miss Alison Kemp returned home early in the week from several weeks’ holiday at Tauranga and Auckland.: " • / ‘

Mrs. B. Stott and Miss ■ Caplen were hostesses- at tea during the week. Mrs. H. D. Cameron, who has been visiting her sister at Auckland for a few weeks past, has returned home. Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Wylds and family returned home during the week from several weeks spent camping at Kawhia beach, - Last week Mrs. Dew Caplen was hostess at tea when Mesdames J. M. Richie (India), W. S. Gibson, R. H. Leece and L. J. Bull, Misses B. Watty (Auckland), Hay-Mackenzie and Edith Elliott were among those entertained. Mr. and Mrs. C. Coxhead, who have been staying with Mrs. Coxhead’s father, Mr. L. O. Hooker, for the past week, left on Thursday for New Plymouth, where they will spend a few days before returning to Auckland. . Miss Joyce Evans entertained a few friends at bridge on Wednesday evening.

Mrs. Petrie, Stratford, is visiting Mrs. Hamilton and Miss E. Caplen. On Wednesday Mrs. Alwright was hostess at an evening in honour of her guests Mrs. >H. Crump and Mrs. Crump senr., Wellington. A number of friends spent an enjoyable time with music and games. Mrs. W. Syme is visiting her. daughter, Mrs. H. T. Underhill, Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. M. Gordon left r during the week on their return to Auckland. Miss D. Meyrick returned home from Wellington on Thursday evening. .

Dr. and Mrs. John Plimmer, Wellington, are Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Bramwell’s guests.

Miss Jean King, Okaiawa, is on a holiday visit to Invercargill. Miss Mabel Cuming, who has been Mrs. Duckworth’s guest, has returned to Napier. -

.A party of friends gathered on Monday evening to congratulate Miss Monica Cann, Hawera, on the attainment of her majority, and a pleasant evening was spent. ’ A' number of friends of Mr. and Mrs. V. Spragg welcomed them home at their residence, the function taking the form of a gift evening. The time was pleasantly spent in dancing and games. Several South Taranaki tennis enthusiasts were noticed at the international tonnis match, U.S.A. v. New Zealand at the Miramar courts, Wellington, on Wednesday, among them being Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Stewart and Miss Helen Stewart, and Mr. arid Mrs. Morion (Eltham), Mr. and Mrs. A. Coleman and Miss Joan Coleman (Stratford), Miss Molly Malone (Stratford), Misses A. Wills, M. Black, D. Meyrick and Mr. B. McCarthy (Hawera).

At the Hawera Club’s croquet lawns this week of the usual weekly competitions only the Collins ferns were played for, Mrs. F. C. King and Mrs. Fred Guy winning ; -from Mesdames Winks and Homer, the holders. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the lawns were engaged with play for the club’s handicap doubles and A and B grade championships. The final for the B grade handicap doubles was won by Mrs. J. E. Dingle and Miss B. Young. On. Tuesday evening Miss Cushla Tonks entertained a number of young friends at a party for Mrs. Elwyn Lloyd, who has recently come to reside here. Bridge was played until supper time; then dancing was enjoyed until a late Hour. Miss Tonks wore a pretty frock of floral taffetas, and the guest of honour wore a dainty gown of lemon organdie. Dahlias and bowls of beautiful rose blooms made pretty decorations in the bridge and supper rooms. Among those present were Mrs. Lloyd, Misses M. Bright,’ K. Coleman, P. Lovell, M. McKenzie, F. Thomson, M. Hawken, J. Powdrell, K. Syms, R. Pease, N. Duckworth, B. Powdrell and A. Cuming (Napier). Prior to her marriage at Auckland recently, Miss Maida Hooker (now Mrs. Charles Coxhead), one . time of Hawera and daughter of Mr. L. O. Hooker, was the guest of honour of a large number of gift, shower and kitchen teas and ’kerchief and "dainty” afternoons, including receptions in her honour given by the Lyceum Club and the Auckland Society of Musicians. At the latter reception Miss Hooker was presented with a gold wrist watch from the members of the society. She was also entertained by the pupils of the Sacred. Heart at Remuera, where she has been teacher of music for some years. Mrs. Coxhead is giving up an extensive -music tutorpractice which she has built up in the past few years in Auckland to reside privately in the Thames district, but her friends will be pleased to learn she does not intend to lessen her interest in music or give up her own music.
