MOTORIST MEETS HORNETS NEST.
POLICE OFFICERS IN CORTEGE. By Telegrapb.fr-Press Association. V? Wellington, Last Night.. On December 31 a motor-car and’- a hearse came into collision at the section of Ruckle and Taranaki Streets and as a result Francis A. Strong appeared to-day on charges of interrupting a funeral procession and failing to give way at an intersection. Among those following the hearse in cars were several police officers, including a sub-inspector and two senior sergeants. Although Strong pleaded not guilty, the evidence of the potice witnesses was so much against him that the Magistrate, Mr. J. G; L. Hewett, remarked that the defendant had run into a hornets’ nest. Strong was fined £1 for interrupting the procession and £1 10s for failing to give way to traffic approaching on his right. He was ordered to pay costs amounting to £1 6s.
