FAMOUS BRITISH AUTHOR PASSES.
By Telecraph—Press Assn.—Copyrirhi.
Rec. 12.3 U a.m. London, Jan. 31. Mr. Johri Galsworthy, the famous British novelist and dramatist, is dead at the age of 65.
Mr. Galsworthy was one of the best known men of letters in England, and was known perhaps best of all for his Forsyte Saga, a series of six novels of English life. He made his first hit with “The Man of Property,” the first novel of the Saga, in 1906, after he had been writing for eight years. As a dramatist he was one of the outstanding figures of Britain. His plays, “The Silver Box,” “Strife,” and “Justice,” are among the few of our time which are genuine works of literature. Mr. Galsworthy continued to write plays and novels for over 20 years. In 1918 he* declined a knighthood, but the Order of Merit was conferred on him in 1929. In the same year he received the Litt. D. degree from Dublin University.
