MISTAKE IN ALLOCATIONS

STRATFORD’S RELIEF TOO MUCH. ELTHAM COMPLAINT JUSTIFIED. In reference to the complaint by the Mayor of Eltham (Mr. I. J. Bridger) that the Eltham unemployed had been unfairly treated in regard to allocations, the following reply has been received from the Unemployment Commissioner.— “I find that so far as the Stratford grant is concerned your complaint was fully justified and that the disparity in the sums recently allocated was due to an unfortunate transposition of figures at this office when the allocations were computed. ' The board’s instructions regarding the computation of allocations are explicit and I very much regret that the neglect to observe these instructions resulted in the unfortunate error of granting Stratford in the past few weeks an allocation in excess of that, which was given to other centres in the Taranaki district. . “I also regret the embarrassing position in which your committee has been placed in regard to the matter. An adjustment has been made in the Stratford allocation and the matter has been suitably taken up with the officers at fault. “Eltham is at present in receipt of the maximum allocation that the board s funds will allow and I assure you that this is in line with the allocations granted to all other country centres in the Taranaki area.” SWIMMING CLUB SPORTS. j HANDICAPS FOR TO-NIGHT.
