CRUISES BY LINERS

VISITS TO AUCKLAND. CARINTHIA AND LURLINE. Auckland, Jan. 30. Two liners, the Cuharder Carinthia and the, new Matson vessel Lurline, will visit Auckland next month in the, course of round-the-world cruises. The Lurline will arrive at Auckland on Feb-, ruary 14, sailing on February 16, and tire Carinthia will arrive next day, spending a week-end in Auckland and leaving for Wellington on February 20. Both liners will bring large numbers of holi-day-makers, and arrangements are being made for trips for them during their stay, in New Zealand. The Lurline, sister ship to the Monterey and Mariposa, left New York on January 12. She sailed from San Francisco on Friday and will' cruise among the South Sea Islands before visiting Auckland. From here she will-go to Sydney: and then through the East Indies to China and Japan before returning to San Francisco. The cruise will be the Lurline’s maiden voyage, and her itinerary provides for the steaming of 30,363 miles in'lo2 days. The Carinthia left New York on January 7, and is at present bound from Honolulu to Tahiti; She will also spend some weeks among the South Sea Islands and, as she will visit Wellington as well ; as Auckland, those of her passengers who wish to do so will be able to travel overland through the North Island, visiting the thermal regions and other famed scenic resorts. Private fishing trips to Taupo and excursions to Rotorua will also be arranged. The Lurline will not visit Wellington before leaving for Sydney, but excursions to Rotorua and Waitomo Caves are being arranged, for her passengers, while there will be numerous shorter sight-seeing trips to places in the vicinity of Auckland.. .......
