Rec. 11.20 p.m. Sydney, Jan; 26, Storms continue to cause heavy damage in parts of the country. Sixteen inches qf rain fell at Eden on the south coast in as many hours during a violent storm, Business premises and homes were flooded over many square miles and the waters rushed feet deep over the roads. Several bridges were swept away oh the Prince’s highway, the main road to Victoria, and traffic was cut off. The post office at Jiethercote was flooded and the postmaster and his family were forced to race for safety. An extraordinary storm at Dorrigo was accompanied by torrential rain, deafening thunder and nerve racking lightning, Three people were taken to hospital paralysed after being struck by lightning. Crops were washed out of the ground and tire hail penetrated the hides of cattle, leaving them bleeding. Many houses and sheds were unroofed.
