YEARLING SALES SUCCESS

AVERAGE BETTER THAN LAST YEAR By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The seventh national sale of New Zealand thoroughbred yearlings was held at Trentham to-day. Despite pessimistic prognostications the sale was very successful. The general standard of yearlings was the best yet offered. Australian buyers were very active. They set the standard and undoubtedly made the •sale.

Mr. E. Moss, owner of Veilmond, was a keen bidder, especially for the Limonds, and he secured some high-priced lots, while it was he who competed against Mr. J. T. Jamieson for the top-priced Limond colt. Practically all the choice lots were sold to Australia. Limonds especially attracted keen competition. There was also good demand for Chief Rulers, Night Raids and best developed Hunting Songs. The Paper Moneys from Ellerslie were a particularly good lot, but the demand was not so good. Phar Lap’s brother, offered on behalf of Mr. F. Armstrong, Christchurch, failed to elicit a bid at the 500 guineas asked. Mr. W. R. Kemball again was a free buyer. He paid 325 guineas for the brother to Tea Trader, Richborough and Posy. In all he purchased 11 lots, six of them being Chief Rulers, two by Hunting Song and one each by Night Raid, Paper Money and Tea Tray. There were 24 withdrawals. The 65 lots were sold for 10,015 guineas, an average of 155 guineas, compared with 128 guineas last year.
